Sacramento County: Former volunteer coach charged with child sex crimes

“On December 29, 2020, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office arrested 59-year-old David Phillip Gallegos on 8 counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and 4 counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 using force/violence/duress. Gallegos is currently being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail with a bail amount of $2,500,000.

Gallegos worked as an independent contractor/volunteer with the girls’ basketball program at Folsom High School until 2018 and ran a private basketball coaching clinic. In addition, Gallegos performed volunteer work in the past for San Juan Unified School District.

This is an active and ongoing criminal investigation. Any community members with information regarding this investigation are urged to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Child Abuse Bureau at (916) 874-5191.”
