On Thursday, November 19, 2020 at approximately 0810 hours a Kings County Sheriff’s Office Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation near the community of Armona.
The driver of the vehicle failed to yield and proceeded to lead the Deputy on a high speed pursuit that lasted approximately 2 miles. The driver was later identified as Brandon Hammers who is on active CDC Parole for burglary.
During the pursuit Mr. Hammers lost control of the vehicle causing a traffic collision in the area of Highway 198 and 16th Avenue just east of Lemoore. After the vehicle came to a stop, Hammers fled from his vehicle and the crash site, leaving two innocent motorists with minor injuries.
The California Highway Patrol Hanford Office is investigating the traffic collision.
A lengthy search for Hammers began which involved numerous law enforcement personnel from local agencies, a Sheriff’s Office canine and a drone. Hammers was apprehended approximately 2 miles away from the collision site. At one point during the search Hammers broke into a vehicle and stole clothing.
He replaced his clothes with the stolen clothes, attempting to deceive deputies. However, deputies arrested Hammers without incident.
Mr. Hammers was booked into the Kings County Jail on six criminal charges to include Felony evading with a bail set at $60,000.00.
