On Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 2017 hours, Robert Turner called SHASCOM to report his neighbor, Justin Leon Barnes (Age 31), assaulted him and was at Turner’s residence, located on the 17000 block of Red Bud Lane, City of Shasta Lake. While deputies were on their way to the scene, they were updated Barnes was outside Turner’s residence and threatening harm with a baseball bat.

When deputies arrived on scene, they contacted Barnes, who was not armed with the baseball bat, in the area of Turner’s residence. Deputies ordered Barnes to the ground numerous times in attempt to gain his compliance. Barnes immediately began defying orders given to him, challenging deputies to fight, and resisted the deputies’ attempts to bring him into custody.

Deputy O’Hara deployed his partner, K9 Ace, during the incident. After a struggle, Barnes was apprehended with the help of K9 Ace and taken into custody. During the struggle, Barnes assaulted both Deputy O’Hara and K9 Ace, but they did not need medical attention for the assault. Following the incident, Turner was treated for his injuries stemming from Barnes’ assault at an area hospital.

Barnes was medically cleared at an area hospital and booked into the Shasta County Jail for 242 PC-Battery, 243(b) PC-Battery on a peace officer, 600(a) PC-Harming a police dog, 243(d) PC- Battery with serious bodily injury, 69 PC-Obstruction/resist executive officer, and 148(a)(1) PC- Obstruct peace officer. A past booking photograph of Barnes was attached to this press release for reference.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with further information regarding this incident to call SHASCOM at (530)245-6540.
