Cavan was driving southbound on I-5, south of County Road A-12, while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.

Cavan failed to maintain control of the big rig, ran off the roadway, and overturned. The big rig came to rest facing in a westerly direction, blocking both lanes of I-5 southbound.

After the crash, Cavan fled the scene on foot in an easterly direction. The driver was later apprehended by CHP Officers and taken into custody for driving under the influence and other charges are being investigated as well.

This collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. We would like to remind everyone to not drink and drive.”
