An age difference of 50 years stood between 88-year-old Westlake resident Fred Rosenberg and 38-year-old Thousand Oaks resident Michael Seidman on the night of October 16th .

But Rosenberg’s five decades of life experience and accumulated wisdom did him no good as he drove southbound on a Thousand Oaks boulevard and could not avoid a head-on collision with Seidman’s car as it careened northbound across lanes into opposing traffic.

According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Dennis Silva, Thousand Oaks Police Department deputies, along with units from American Medical Response and the Ventura County Fire department arrived on the scene and promptly “rendered aid to both drivers.”

Rosenberg was then transported to the hospital, suffering from “major injuries.”

For his part, Seidman suffered minor injuries, and upon his release from medical care was transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of Felony DUI With Injuries.

Just days later, however, Rosenberg succumbed to his injuries. When Seidman appeared for his arraignment hearing on October 20th , his charges were “amended to include felony vehicular manslaughter.”

Seidman remains in custody, with his bail set at $500,000.
