“You may have seen police and fire activity in the area of Browns Valley Road on Friday afternoon. Shortly after 4:00 pm, officers were alerted a stolen Lexus had entered our city. As officers scoured the area, an observant officer located the car in the area of Callen Street and E. Monte Vista Avenue. As the officer attempted to position his patrol car behind the Lexus, it quickly accelerated and attempted to evade officers. Officers pursued the Lexus up Browns Valley Road and onto Shelton Lane. The driver of the car, 41 year-old Eligio Nunez (out of Hayward), may not have known that Shelton Lane comes to a dead end.

As the Lexus traveled through the gravel, it lost control and careened into a nearby tree. Eligio did not comply with officers orders even at that point, and fled on foot. Our fleet footed officer gave chase and caught up to him. Eligio was taken into custody.

While more officers were arriving, nearby neighbors alerted them the Lexus was now fully engulfed in flames. Local fire departments were called to help and they were able to extinguish the fire before structures were threatened.

Eligio was found to be on PRCS (Post Release Community Supervision) and probation. Eligio was booked into Solano County Jail for charges related to possession of a stolen vehicle, evasion and violation of his PRCS and probation terms.

This chaotic scene was another example of why teamwork between our community members, police and fire departments is so important and needed. We love our community and their willingness to help. Whether it was escorting personnel in or providing them with water on that hot Friday afternoon, thank you for your support and partnership!

****update****

After the embers cooled, officers searched the vehicle and located three firearms. Additional charges related to the firearms will be sought against Eilgio, to include felon in possession of a firearm.”
