Suspect nabbed in fatal Watt Avenue convenience store shooting

A shooting occurred on July 5 after 1:00 a.m. at a convenience store in the 4900 block of Watt Avenue.

Deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office arrived and discovered an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

A security guard from the store was “rendering aid to the victim,” who was then taken to an area hospital, at which time he was pronounced deceased.

As deputies began their investigation, they discovered that the suspect and the victim got into a fight inside the store.

Then, 53-year-old Eugene Pratt left and returned, shooting the victim.

The security guard in turn drew his duty weapon and apparently inflicted a wound to the suspect in his lower body.

Pratt was treated for his wounds before being taken into custody.
