“Over the past month, Bakersfield Police Department officers have responded to six reports of ShotSpotter activations and shootings in neighborhood between Brundage Lane and 4th Street, and Union Avenue and T Street.

On Sunday, June 28, 2020, at about 9:47 p.m., officers were patrolling in the 200 block of Donna Avenue when they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle leaving the area.

The driver initially failed to yield and led officers on a brief pursuit. As officers were pursuing the vehicle, they observed the occupants discarding two firearms. The vehicle eventually yielded in the 800 block of Brundage Lane and the two occupants were detained without further incident.

Officers recovered the two loaded 9mm handguns that were thrown from the vehicle, and one of the firearms was determined to be stolen.

The occupants were identified as Thaddeus Thomas (age 25) and Norris Jones (age 23).

Thomas and Jones are both convicted felons, documented gang members and currently on parole from the California Department of Corrections. They were arrested for several firearms related charges, gang participation and parole violations. Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to call the Bakersfield Police Department at (661) 327-7111.”
