Attempted Homicide Suspect Identified, Arrested

Reports of a fight in progress dispatched Visalia Police officers to the area of Linwood Street and Riggin Avenue the afternoon of May 18, 2020.

Minutes later, dispatch received a report of a wounded male in the same area. The adult victim was transported via ambulance to a local hospital to be treated for a single gunshot wound. Violent Crimes Detectives and Crime Lab were called to the scene to investigate.

Through their investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 41-year old Fernando Saldana of Visalia. Saldana was located and apprehended without resistance.

Detectives searched his home and found the firearm used in the commission of the crime. They also confiscated a sawed off shotgun and a revolver. Saldana’s conviction history prohibits him from possessing firearms.

Saldana was arrested for attempted homicide, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, and possession of a short barreled shotgun.

He was booked at the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Facility on May 28, 2020. He remains in custody at the Bob Wiley Detention Facility with bail set at $500,000 as of the time of this writing.
