Border Patrol agents arrest previously-deported convict

Border Patrol agents in Calexico have arrested a previously-deported man who also has a sexual assault conviction out of Los Angeles County.

Just after 11 AM on Saturday, May 2, remote surveillance operators alerted agents to the presence of an individual potentially crossing the border illegally about three miles west of the Calexico West Downtown Port of Entry.

Responding agents picked up the individual, identified as 31-year-old Carlos Garcia-Serrano of Honduras, and ran a background check.

The results revealed a prior conviction from September 11, 2011, out of Los Angeles County for felony sex with a minor 3+ years his junior, for which he had served three years. He had also previously been deported in January of 2007.

He is now in federal custody awaiting prosecution.
