Suspect in Custody for Scissor Attacks on 2 Restaurant Employees

PACHECO — A man accused of using scissors to attack employees at two restaurants remains in custody. The suspect was arrested last weekend by Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

The first stabbing occurred at Los Panchos Mexican Restaurant, located at 5872 Pacheco Boulevard. The suspect entered the restaurant April 11th at about 8:30 p.m. and stabbed a worker with a pair of scissors.

The second stabbing happened the same night at Mingles Pizza, located at 5860 Pacheco Boulevard. The second victim was also attacked by a man with scissors a short time later.

Neither victim was seriously injured. One of the victims was treated at the scene. The other victim was taken to a hospital to receive medical treatment for minor wounds.

The suspect identified as Alonso Villagarcia, 35 of Pittsburg, fled from both restaurants. Customers and employees alike were left gobsmacked by these apparently unprovoked attacks.

The suspect fled north along Pacheco Boulevard, but he was not immediately located by authorities. Deputies assisted by Pleasant Hill police and California Highway Patrol officers set up a perimeter, while searching for him.

The Sheriff’s Office dispatched an aerial drone and a K-9 unit to help locate the suspect. Villagarcia was taken into custody at 9:55 p.m.

Villagarcia was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility, where he remains in custody in lieu of $315,000 bond. He faces charges for assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, making threats of violence and robbery.
