LAW ENFORCEMENT IMPERSONATOR ARRESTED…BY ACTUAL LAW ENFORCEMENT

Here’s an interesting story from the San Gorgonio Pass PD about an elderly man who was in possession of an interesting assortment of items –

“On the afternoon of 03/21/2020, Officer M. Bell and Officer G. Aanestad of the San Gorgonio Pass CHP received a call of a suspicious person walking in downtown Idyllwild, contacting people as a FEMA Agent and offering his services as a law enforcement professional.

Officer Bell and Officer Aanestad located and contacted the subject, a 72 year-old man from Idyllwild. Through their investigation, our officers discovered a loaded .45 caliber pistol, several additional rounds of ammunition, multiple counterfeit police and security badges, and multiple counterfeit law enforcement ID cards and a “concealed carry permit”.

The suspect was placed under arrest for several charges including impersonating a peace officer and possession of a concealed firearm without a permit.

In these uncertain times, be wary of scams, cons and dishonesty. This person was using the current crisis to take advantage of unsuspecting victims to make money.

While it is true that some agencies operate in “plain clothes”, you should never be asked for money when dealing with a legitimate law enforcement agency.

People like this discredit and undermine real law enforcement professionals, but fear not! The California Highway Patrol will always provide the highest level of safety, service, and security to the people of California so that you always have someone you can trust.
