Riverside County Authorities Investigate Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Palm Springs
PALM SPRINGS, CA-The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Force Investigation Division is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred in Palm Springs on May 28, 2026.
At approximately 3:41 p.m., Palm Springs Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of East Palm Canyon Drive following reports of an individual brandishing a weapon. The suspect, described as an adult Hispanic male wearing a dark shirt and jeans, was reportedly acting erratically and had allegedly brandished a knife at employees at the location.
Upon arrival, officers located the individual on the property and attempted to establish communication. To resolve the situation peacefully, officers utilized de-escalation tactics, deployed less-lethal options, and requested assistance from the department’s Community Behavioral Assessment Team.
During the encounter, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Palm Springs Fire Department personnel administered medical care to the subject on-site. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. No police officers were injured during the incident.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.
Per standard protocol, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Force Investigation Division is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting, the findings of which will be submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. Concurrently, the Palm Springs Police Department’s Professional Standards Division is reviewing the incident in accordance with department policy.
