A Porterville woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and attempted kidnapping.

Just after 2 PM on Saturday, February 22, police responded to the sub-100 block of West Olive Avenue to investigate alleged threats made by 28-year-old Lori Powell.

Two victims said that Powell had walked into the business there demanding money, threatening to kill the victim if he didn’t do as he was told.

A second victim then told police Powell had tried to kidnap a juvenile who was with her, threatening death if Powell’s demand was not met. The victim nonetheless refused and continued guarding the juvenile.

Powell then fled the store on foot, heading eastbound on Olive Avenue. Officers soon found her hiding in a dumpster and tried to take her into custody.

Though she initially resisted and made threats against the officers, she was ultimately subdued with pepper spray and taken into custody.

She was later booked on $100,000 bond.
