Riverside Police Department reminds us – if you see something, say something

The Riverside Police Department issued the following advisory reminding the public to be alert, especially during this holiday season –

“This morning around 4:35 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, a community member reported suspicious activity coming from the parking lot of their apartment complex, located in the Sycamore Canyon neighborhood.

The caller heard and saw what appeared to be a suspicious person possibly breaking into cars. Officers responded and were able to locate the suspicious person still in the complex.

It was determined he was checking for unlocked vehicles, but thanks to the caller and quick response of our patrol officer, the suspect had yet to burglarize any vehicles. Our suspect did have an outstanding warrant for a prior grand theft offense, so he was booked into county jail. Great job by our citizen caller!

The holiday season is upon us and auto burglars are on the lookout in our shopping centers and neighborhoods Here are some safety tips to lessen your chances of being victimized.

1. Always lock your vehicle
2. Keep valuables out of sight
3. Keep your windows rolled up

We are thankful for this caller who alerted us to the suspicious activity in their neighborhood. They saw something, then said something. We want our community members to call when criminal behavior is observed, because you may help us make a good arrest like today.

For these safety tips and more, watch our holiday safety video about car burglary.
