San Mateo Police: Stabbing suspect acted erratically, waded into lagoon

Police say a person suspected of multiple stabbings reportedly displayed erratic behavior, including randomly wading into a lagoon, in San Mateo earlier this week.

Just after 7 PM on Monday, October 28, police were called to the BJ’s Restaurant at the Bridgepointe Shopping Center near Highway 92 and immediately began rendering aid to a victim who’d been stabbed in the neck. Fortunately, their injuries were not life-threatening.

Around half an hour later, dispatch received calls reporting that two more people had been stabbed along the lagoon in the Edgewater Isle neighborhood on the other side of the highway.

Responding officers located the two victims, whose injuries were also non-life threatening.

Units from San Mateo PD’s Crime Reduction Unit eventually found the suspect behaving erratically and making their way into the lagoon, but were ultimately able to make an arrest without much incident.

The suspect, whose name and gender have not been released, has been booked at the San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

The victims were treated at a local trauma center.
