Suspect arrested in Kern County beehive thefts

TAFT — The Kern County Sheriff’s Office Rural Crime Investigation Unit has announced the arrest of a suspect in numerous beehive thefts in the area.

Detectives acquired videos and photographs of the suspect — later identified as 36-year-old Jose Martinez — and, on September 9 just before 3 PM, paid a visit to a residence in the 500 block of Philippine Street.

There they recovered stolen property believed to be connected to the hive thefts.

Martinez faces charges of conspiracy, grand theft, and possession of stolen property.
