MADERA — A suspected drunk driver was arrested after allegedly driving through a police perimeter and striking a patrol car last Thursday night.

That night, August 8th, police were conducting a criminal investigation on the 900 block of West Pecan, which they had closed off using patrol vehicles with activated overhead lights (i.e. hard to miss).

A woman, later identified as Teresa Orta, came blasting onto Pecan Avenue, traveling east in the westbound lane, and struck one of the patrol cars, causing her vehicle to roll onto its roof.

The impact was hard enough that the first patrol car collided with a second one about 20 feet away.

Nonetheless, no one was seriously injured.

Orta and her passenger, whose name has not been released, sustained minor injuries and were treated at Madera Community Hospital, after which Orta was booked for felony DUI.

Police say Orta’s blood-alcohol level was over three times the legal limit.
