BURNT RANCH – Burnt Ranch, a census designated place with a population of approximately 281 people, surely does not experience many criminal incidents there by the Trinity River in Northern California.

On May 24th, however, a shooting occurred that likely disrupted the relative peace and calm of the idyllic area.

39-year-old Eric Windschitl called the Trinity County Dispatch Center to  report a shooting in which he was the shooter.

Arriving deputies heard his story – that an unnamed male had attacked him in his home and that he shot the male in response.

Windschitl indeed had a black eye, and the shooting victim suffered from several gunshot wounds. The two were not strangers and lived on the same property. The shooting occurred in the backyard. Deputies collaborated the story.

The victim was treated and released. Windschitl was arrested for attempted homicide.
