YUBA CITY – On August 21st, 2016 a Yuba City Police officer was attacked in the area of Queens Avenue by two men. Thankfully, a good samaritan stepped in and helped to stop the attack.

Steven Strong Bear Stevenson was charged in the incident with attempted murder of a peace officer, use of a firearm while committing a felony, and assault with a deadly weapon.

Both the officer and the Good Samaritan suffered some injuries (concussions, minor cuts) in the attack.

The incident all started when a car crashed into parked cars on Queens Avenue after midnight. The officer who arrived to investigate was then overpowered by the driver and passenger. Stevenson manged to take the Officer’s baton and proceeded to beat him in the head with it.

Nearly three years later, on May 14th 2019, Stevenson was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison for the crime.
