Suspicious package leads to arrest for drugs, guns

NEVADA COUNTY – Agents from the Department of Homeland Security (HSI) and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) contacted the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office recently about a package that was on its way to a house in the 12000 block of Old Stagecoach Road.

Agents opened the package and found “enough parts to convert 15 semi-automatic handguns into automatic machine pistols.”

Armed with a warrant, detectives from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) went to the residence. Once inside, they further discovered a honey oil lab and several other illegal firearms.”

They also “located two illegally-modified AR-15 assault rifles, and enough parts to convert ten AR-15 rifles into fully-automatic rifles.”

31-year-old John Robert Williams was arrested for manufacturing controlled substances, possession of illegal weapons and commission of a felony while armed.
