Arrest 25 days after attempted kidnapping

FAIRFIELD – An attempted kidnapping incident occurred on February 3, resulting in an arrest on February 28.

On the 3rd a female in the parking lot of her apartment complex in the 200 block of E. Alaska Avenue was approached by a man who said he was a security officer from a local business.

The suspect said that the woman was being accused of a crime and that she was to go back to the store with him. The victim refused and that is when the suspect pulled out a gun and tried to force her towards her car.

A basic description of the suspect and his car were obtained – a 6′ tall black male weighing 220 pounds drove a 2012-2014 Hyundai Sonata.

Then, on February 21 the FPD posted pics of the suspect and his vehicle on their Facebook page and the very next day he was identified as 19-year-old Josiah Washington.

The investigation revealed that Washington asserted that he witnessed a theft in a business in the 2400 block of N. Texas Street “took it upon himself to contact her and attempt to affect a citizen’s arrest, at one point brandishing a pellet gun.”

On February 28 Washington was arrested and charged with false imprisonment, attempted kidnapping and a weapons violation.
