Update — Self-barricaded OC man had .38 caliber

TUSTIN  –   On January 6th, the Tustin Police Department released additional information on the January 3rd, 2019, arrest of Jorge Aguilar. The Tustin and Irvine police SWAT teams jointly had arrested the 34-year-old Orange County man after having been called to a residence on Tustin East Drive for the arrest of a probation violator at the site that same day.

Police more recently confirmed that the two men were related. The residence on Tustin East Drive was that of the probation violator.

Aguilar’s arrest stemmed from his having armed himself with a handgun and barricaded himself in the house of the probation violator, while insisting that he would never go back to prison. The SWAT tactical team and a team of negotiators attempted to reason with the Aguilar, and the suspect ultimately capitulated.

The handgun in question police later identified as a .38 caliber revolver. Aguilar was found to have an outstanding felony warrant, among other charges for which he was arrested. He was being held in the Orange County Central Jail on bail of $220 000, with a court date of January 7, 2019.

No injuries resulted from the incident.
