One Fatal Shovel Blow Fends Off Transient Who Attacked 3 City Workers

HESPERIA – A transient died eight days after a shovel stopped his attack with a deadly weapon with death threats. Deputies responded to the assault call at Bear Valley Road and Fifth Ave., as three Victorville city workers painted lines on the roadway near midnight on Aug. 7th.

First, Jose Dolores Ruvalcaba (45), a Hesperia transient, assaulted then “chased the public workers with an unknown object in his hand and claimed he was going to kill them.” Said SBSD – Hesperia PD, “Workers believed Ruvalcaba was armed as he chased them and feared for their safety.”

Next, he tried to steal their truck. “To prevent further assault, one of the men struck Ruvalcaba once with a shovel.”

Then the fatal blow stoppped Ruvalcaba. Medical personnel took him to a local area hospital. On Tuesday, August 13th, the hospital pronounced that Ruvalcaba succumbed to his injuries.

Consequently, Specialized Investigations Division have announced the ongoing investigation into the Assault with a Deadly Weapon/Robbery/Homicide case. The DA will review the results.
