HOLLISTER – A foot pursuit of a drugged up man ended up with the suspect assaulting the pursuing officer.

On August 5 at 2:00 a.m. a HPD officer spotted a car with a vehicle code violation. The driver did not stop, but instead drove up to a driveway, got out and ran.

The officer pursued the man at the residence in the 200 block of Sally Street.  The officer chased and caught the suspect as he tried to scale a fence.

Then the suspect began to fight the officer. In addition, during the struggle, he would not pull his hands out from beneath him.

Finally the officer handcuffed 20-year-old Daniel Perez. Nearby lay a loaded firearm, evidently dropped by Perez, who was impaired.

Police also wanted Perez for a stolen vehicle case from a week ago, where he abandoned the car and fled.

Perez’ charges include assault on an officer, resisting arrest, DUI, loaded firearm in public, concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both the suspect and the officer received treatment for injuries at the hospital.
