VENICE – The Surfside Bar at 23 Windward Avenue was the scene of a shooting last Wednesday.

2 strangers reportedly got into some sort of argument and were both escorted outside by security.  Once outside, one of the men pulled out a gun and fired a total of nine shots in the direction of the bar and the individual with whom he had had an argument.

That person was shot and wounded but is expected to survive.

The shooter, 46-year-old transient Robert Leo Mewhorter, as arrested the next day, now clean-shaven. He faces one count of attempted murder while using a handgun and causing great bodily injury.

If convicted Mewhorter faces 34 years to life in prison.  His bail was set at $2 million.
