FREMONT // Police have arrested and charged a 57-year-old Fremont man for his role in a fatal DUI collision on December 8th.

Just before 10 AM, police received word that a vehicle had struck a parked truck near Argonaut Way and Mowry Avenue. Responding officers determined that a 2013 Nissan Rouge had slammed into the back of a utility trailer attached to a Chevy pickup truck.

The Nissan’s driver — identified at this time only as a 57-year-old Fremont resident — was found unconscious in his car. The body of a 44-year-old man was found on the grass median off Argonaut Way. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fremont PD notes that the truck and trailer had been parked legally at the time of the collision.

The driver of the Nissan was taken to hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries, during which he exhibited clear signs of drug impairment. He has been taken into custody for DUI causing fatal injury.

The name if the victim has yet to be released.
