Test Drive Turns into Car Theft

Andrew Rodriguez under arrest

On September 5, Andrew Rodriguez, posed as a buyer interested in purchasing a vehicle from a fellow Madera resident.

The owner met Rodriguez and allowed him to test drive the vehicle, but Rodriguez drove off and never returned.

The owner filed a report with the Madera Police Department. Later that day the owner of the stolen vehicle spotted the car thief driving the car in the city of Madera and updated police to Rodriguez’s location but Rodriguez drove away before police arrived.

Madera officers located the vehicle once again and, in collaboration with the California Highway Patrol, stopped and apprehended Rodriguez near Avenue 17 and Road 26.

Rodriguez, who was out on bail for possession of a stolen vehicle, added another charge of the same violation to his arrest record before being booked at the county jail.
