MADERA COUNTY — On April 12th, the Madera Narcotics Enforcement Team served three search warrants in the city of Chowchilla pursuant to the cultivation and possession for sales of marijuana.

With assistance from the Madera County Sheriff’s Office and Chowchilla PD, officers seized 1,167 marijuana plants, 10.74 pounds of processed marijuana, and over $20,000 in cash.

A lone suspect, identified as Evelyn Castillo, was arrested and charged with “cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sales, and theft of utilities.”

Despite the recent measure to legalize recreational marijuana in the State of California, cultivation and possession of excess amounts without proper authorization can still subject California residents to legal action.
