Driver in Jail, Accused of Shooting Another Driver

Antonio A Artiga

SAN LEANDRO — A man was arrested Tuesday morning on suspicion of attempted murder and related weapons charges, as he was arriving at his workplace located on the 3000 block of Alvarado Street.

Antonio A. Artiga (35) of Oakland was taken into custody March 28 shortly before 8 a.m., booked at Santa Rita Jail, and denied any chance for bail.

Artiga is charged with attempted murder, carrying a concealed weapon, carrying concealed stolen weapon, carrying a loaded firearm in public or a vehicle, and receiving stolen property.

The suspect is accused of shooting and wounding a driver inside another vehicle near East 14th Street and Fairmont Drive in the early hours of March 24. The suspect fled by driving away.

During Artiga’s arrest, a stolen loaded gun was found inside his car, which police believe is the same weapon used in the shooting incident. For several days preceding the arrest, police said witnesses have been interviewed and evidence collected linking the suspect to the crime.
