Probation Officers Charged with Assault

LOS ANGELES — A third probation officer has been charged in connection to an assault charge.

On April 25, 2016, officer Carlos Portillo allegedly hit a teen repeatedly while officer Timothy Boundy held the youth and officer Sergio Cano watched.

The incident was videotaped.  Portillo has been charged with two counts of assault under color of authority, and has pleaded not guilty. Boundy and Cano have also been charged in this incident.

District Attorney Jackie Lacey remarked,”The probation officers charged in this case were entrusted with the safekeeping and well-being of youths while in their custody. Sadly, in this instance, we believe the defendants abused their authority and broke the law.”

The maximum sentence for a guilty verdict in this case is four years and four months in state prison.
