Gang Member Fires Shotgun in Back Yard of Occupied Home

FRESNO – Officers were called to a neighborhood where they received reports of shots being fired inside a home.

Further investigation helped pinpoint the exact home where this occurred.

Police surrounded the home and called to its inhabitants to exit the residence. A group of males and females, and two toddlers, came out.

No others were in the home as police entered it for a search.  They discovered a shotgun with ammunition in one of the bedrooms.  They also discovered spent shotgun shells in the backyard.

The bedroom was that of 27-year-old Martin Cortez, who was among the group that had exited the home.  The gang member with a criminal history confessed to firing the shotgun.

Cortez was arrested for possessing a firearm, with ammunition, and felony child endangerment.
