Deputies Seeking Rape Suspect in Redlands

REDLANDS – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies are asking for help in tracking down a rape suspect.

The rape took place early Thursday morning when deputies were called to Redlands Community Hospital, which is where a 25-year-old female resident of neighboring San Bernardino was located.

Deputies are seeking a Hispanic man who was descried as being aged 25 to 30 years, approximately 5-feet, 10-inches with a bald head.

It had been reported the victim, who was not identified by authorities, was in the area of Foothill Boulevard and Meridian Avenue in San Bernardino.

The suspect drove up to her in an older model white pick-up truck, stopped and began talking with her. When the suspect offered to give her a ride to her destination, she got into the truck.

“Instead of heading toward her destination,” said Deputy Wade Jackson, “the suspect drove in the opposite direction. (She) told the suspect several times she wanted out of the truck.”

Instead, the suspect struck her several times in the face and body, driving onto Riverside Avenue in Rialto, eventually winding up on Interstate 15. He drove the truck to a secluded dirt road off the Cajon Pass – part of the winding freeway that links San Diego and Las Vegas, among other points.

The suspect forcibly raped the victim. Afterward, he drove her to Rialto, dropping her off at a fast food restaurant.

She wound up at the hospital in Redlands where law enforcement was sought.

The suspect is being sought on charges of kidnapping and rape.
