Watsonville Man Arrested after Brass Knuckle Assault

WATSONVILLE — Police have arrested 25-year-old Enrique Avalos of Watsonville on charges of assault with a deadly weapon after an altercation in the 100 block of Pelican Drive last Friday night.

That night at about 5:45 PM, police responded to reports of battery in Pelican Drive. Once on scene, they learned that a verbal altercation between the suspect and an unidentified victim had led to a physical one. The suspect, later identified as Avalos, had then left and returned with a second suspect in his vehicle.

The victim was then assaulted with a set of brass knuckles while both suspects allegedly yelled gang-related epithets. The victim sustained several injuries to the head.

Two hours after the report, the Watsonville Gang Unit had the suspects’ vehicle and the driver — the second unnamed suspect — detained. Authorities soon identified Avalos as the primary suspect and travelled to his location.

At approximately 8:45 PM, Avalos was arrested in the area of Vic Rugh Lane and Gardner Avenue. He was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with gang enhancements.
