SAN JOSE — On February 12, San Jose police responded to the area of Winchester Boulevard and Driftwood Drive on reports of a collision, according to the SJPD.

Officers arrived on scene at approximately 12:10 A.M. to discover a male victim, later identified as Toedoro Arredando-Diaz, severely injured after having been hit while riding his bicycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation by the SJPD Traffic Investigation Unit turned up a witness who reported seeing a suspect flee the scene northbound on Winchester Boulevard in a red Honda Del Sol.

Later that same day, officers responded to the area of South Winchester Boulevard and Magliocco Drive on reports of a vehicle matching the description. Upon recognizing damage to the vehicle similar to that of the collision, investigators impounded it as evidence.

The next day, after an extensive follow-up, investigators located and arrested 23-year-old Christopher Africa at his home in San Jose.

He is currently housed at the Santa Clara County Jail for felony hit and run.
