Suspect Arrested for Fatal Shooting at Market

Eric Gallardo

FRESNO – Police arrested a man they believe to be responsible for the fatal shooting of another man at Kearney Market in southwest Fresno.

The Fresno Police Department arrested 23-year-old Eric Gallardo of Fresno on murder charges.

The incident took place around 5:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Kearney Boulevard at Kearney Market on Saturday, Jan. 23. A verbal altercation between Gallardo and victim Anthony Jones escalated when Jones was hit with a fist, police said.

The suspect then allegedly pulled out his gun and fired shots at Jones, who was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he later died.

Police located Gallardo in Stockton, where he was arrested and returned to Fresno County Jail. On Wednesday, the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office announced it had charged Gallardo with one felony count of murder, as well as enhancements for using a firearm in the commission of a crime.

Gallardo, who will be arraigned on Thursday, faces a potential life sentence if convicted.
