San Jose police arrest shooting suspect after city’s 2nd homicide of the year

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Police Department has announced an arrest in connection to the shooting death of 25-year-old Stephen McCloskey, whose body was found near the Los Lagos golf course in San Jose.

According to SJPD Officer Albert Morales, police were dispatched on January 7th at around 9:40 PM to a report of a person having been shot in the area of Pinto Drive and Lone Bluff Way. Once arrived, they located an adult male victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Morales went on to say that the suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Michael Paul Malone, fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after the homicide. According to police records, Malone was arrested on January 8, only a few hours after the incident. The motive and circumstances are yet unknown.

Malone is currently held on a no-bail warrant at the San Jose Main Jail. His next court date has been scheduled for February 2 at 1:30 PM.

This marks San Jose’s 2nd homicide of the year following the arrest of Maxim Zhukov on January 7 for the stabbing death of his father, whose body was found abandoned in a car in Richmond.
