Bakersfield Crips gang member arrested during parole search

BAKERSFIELD — A known Bakersfield gang member was arrested for possessing a stolen firearm during a Bakersfield parole sweep on Wednesday.

Wendell Allen, 28, of Bakersfield, was booked into the Kern County Jail on various weapons related charges and a parole violation charge.

He is currently being held without bail.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, Allen, a known country boy crips gang member, was taken into custody after officers and parole agents from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Parole Apprehension Team responded to a residence he was staying at on Knotts Drive in northeast Bakersfield to conduct a search on January 6.

During their search, officers said they found a stolen .357 caliber firearm.

Allen has a lengthy rap sheet in Kern County, being arrested six times since 2005.

He pled guilty to a charge of post release violation in February of 2013, and then when facing an attempted murder charge in October of 2013, pled nolo contendere to participating in a street gang and served 10 months of a five year sentence in Wasco State Prison.
