Carson Christmas Gift Thief Nabbed on Video

Surveillance photo captures Martinez in action

A Christmas Eve arraignment in Compton is in store for the thief who tried to steal a newly-delivered Christmas party gift.

The security video captured every moment – from the casual walk-by, mild observance, to a return to the porch for a quick grab and go – of 32-year-old male Hispanic Gabriel Martinez, out on probation with an extensive criminal history and felony convictions for theft, who just couldn’t resist one more temptation for the holidays.

According to Detective Mark Pope, the surveillance footage taken December 14, 2015 at 400 Block of West 224th Street in Carson was all it took for Sheriff Detectives to obtain a warrant based on his identification, arrive at Martinez’ residence on December 22nd, and discover additional stolen items, resulting in multiple theft-related charges that detectives stacked up during the currently ongoing theft investigation.

Martinez was placed in a holding cell in lieu of $20,000 bail, with an appearance/arraignment in Compton set for Christmas Eve.

Detectives are requesting anyone with information for the ongoing investigation to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Carson Station, Detective Michael Perea at (310) 830-1123. If you prefer to provide information anonymously, you may call “Crime Stoppers” by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477), or texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or by using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org/
