Mentally ill man arrested (again) for periodically breaking into cousin’s home

1600 area of Estates Court, San Jose

The San Jose Police Department reported the arrest of Hakeem Jamar Matthews (26) after he was caught illegally entering a residence at 1677 Estates Court in San Jose.

According to court records, Matthews entered the residence sometime after 3:00 pm through a broken a screen door.  The victim had filed previous no-contact orders against Matthews, who is his distant cousin.

However, despite the order, Matthews continues to break into the victim’s home, often after disappearing for months at a time. It wasn’t long before it became necessary to install an alarm system in an attempt to put a stop to the break-ins, which ultimately didn’t work.

Matthews apparently suffers from an unknown mental disorder and returns to the residence periodically.

Matthews was arrested on charges of robbery and second degree burglary and appeared in court on December 11, 2015 for his bail hearing.  His next court date has been scheduled for January 6, 2015 at 9:00 am in Dept 34.
