Evicted Aggressor at 12-step Center Gets Tased a Few Steps After Resisting Arrest

PETALUMA – On Monday April 27, Petaluma Police Department (PPD) issued a Press Release about a man arrested for battery on a citizen.

At approximately 12:30 pm April 27, PPD received a report of an unwanted person at the Alano Club at 1050 Petaluma Boulevard North. The Alano Club is a non-profit meant to supplement Alcoholics Anonymous and other substance abuse twelve step programs, and maintains facilities for educational and recreational use to aid in recovery.

The subject entered the club and began yelling at staff members, and did not follow club rules. He was escorted outside as police were called. Once outside of the building, the subject hit one of the staff members twice in the face, causing an abrasion and swelling.

Officer Dario Giomi arrived on the scene and located the suspect along a fence north of the Alano Club. Officer Giomi gave the suspect orders to turn around. The suspect turned around, putting his hands up in front of him and yelled at Officer Giomi to tase him. He then began to walk away while the officer continued to give him orders to stop. The suspect again stopped and turned on the officer with his hands clenched in fists and his body positioned in a fighting stance.

He continued to yell and began to move towards the officer, who continued to give orders to the suspect to stop. The suspect continued his approach towards Officer Giomi, who deployed his Taser due to the subject’s aggressive behavior. As Officer Giomi deployed his Taser, the suspect turned his back towards the officer and attempted to run. The probes from the Taser landed in the suspect’s back and he was able to run only 5 to 6 feet before the Taser incapacitated him and he fell to the ground.

The suspect was identified as 42-year-old Bryan Robey. He did not sustain any injuries in the altercation but was taken into custody, and then to Petaluma Valley Hospital for medical clearance prior to being booked at the Sonoma County Jail. Robey faces charges for battery, resisting a peace officer and also has a “no bail” Sonoma County warrant that was discovered after he was taken into custody.
