Man Accused in Bakersfield Homicide, Arrested in Mexico

BAKERSFIELD — The hunt for a Bakersfield man that stabbed another man to death in March has come to an end in Mexico.

Peter Moreno, 35, of Bakersfield was arrested in Mexico on Aug. 21, and will be extradited back to the United States to face charges of murder.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, Moreno was located with the assistance of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Marshals Service San Diego Fugitive Task Force.

Moreno has been on the run after killing 31-year-old Ivan Garcia on March 13, 2014, in the 900 block of South Union Avenue in southeast Bakersfield. Deputies found Garcia suffering from stab wounds after responding to the report of a stabbing at about 3:49 p,.m

He was pronounced dead at the scene. During their investigation, detectives said they were able to determine that Moreno and Garcia were involved in a physical altercation, which ended with Moreno stabbing Garcia several times before fleeing the area.
