HAWTHORNE, CA—Murder, Prostitution and countless other crimes against humanity—but $100,000 for a first time DUI?

Marlon Nyankori, 33, possess a surname that suggests a heritage of Uganda. His bail, however, may suggest otherwise: $100,000.

The alleged “computer tech” was arrested on Saturday, June 14 at 11 p.m. The computer tech was picked up by Hawthorne Police Department officers at the corner of Slauson Avenue and Brynhurst Avenue in Los Angeles. The intersection where Nyankori was arrested was in Los Angeles, several miles north of the City of Hawthorne. The City of Inglewood, Los Angeles County unincorporated and City of Los Angeles areas areas lie between the Cit of Hawthorne and the address where police reports indicate Nyankoria was apprehended.

According to Hawthorne Police Department records, a typical DUI arrest bail for the month of June, 2014 is set at approximately $40,000.

Hawthorne Police spokespersons did not respond to requests for comment.

Nyankori was charged with a single misdemeanor under 23152(B)VC DUI Alcohol/0.08 percent. Bail was set at $100,000.00.
