Wanted Felon Arrested for Grand Theft Auto

LAKE ISABELLA — Deputies arrested a wanted felon for stealing two cars last Thursday morning in the small mountain community of Lake Isabella.

Kenneth Johnson, 29, of Bakersfield, was booked into the Kern County Jail’s Central Receiving Facility for grand theft auto, possession of stolen property, providing false identification to a peace officer and several felony warrants.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the chain of events began when Johnson first stole a Toyota Avalon out of nearby Bakersfield in the early morning hours of April 24, which he allegedly drove around 50 miles before abandoning it alongside Highway 178 near Delonegha.

Deputies said that they had received reports that the Toyota was seen fleeing the scene of an additional report of a stolen Toyota Landcruiser in Kernville later that same morning at around 8:30 am.

Depuites were able to recover the Landcruiser a short time later, which was also ditched near the area of Mountain Mesa and Lower Richbar Campground, where they eventually found Johnson, who was in possession Avalon’s ignition key.
