Four Charged in Maricopa Drug Bust

MARICOPA — Three people were arrested, and charges added to a fourth already serving time, after deputies raided and found drug and stolen property at a Maricopa residence on Friday afternoon.

Brian Hawkins, 34, and Roxana Meirs, 65, both residents of Maricopa, were both booked into the Kern County Jail’s Central Receiving Facility on charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Also arrested in the raid, was 56 -year-old Maricopa resident Richard Van Winkle, who was booked for possession of a controlled substance, being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition and for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

According to the  Kern County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from the Taft substation searched the residence  located in the 600 block of Main Street in the City of Maricopa at around 1 p.m. on April 25.

As a result, deputies said they found and seized approximately 4.6 grams of suspected methamphetamine and four rounds of .25 caliber ammunition.

Deputies said they also located a stolen Yamaha off-road motorcycle on the property, and after a brief investigation were able to determine that it had been in the possession of 19-year-old Maricopa resident Shawn Dakota Smith, who is already serving time without bail for various drug related offenses.

A supplemental booking was added to Smith, charging him with being in possession of the stolen motorcycle.
