Group Home Resident Killed With Blunt Object

SACRAMENTO—Sacramento Police officers responded to the 2100 block of Matson Drive regarding a report of a female adult subject bleeding and in need of medical aid on Tuesday, April 22, at approximately 8:19 pm. Matson Drive is in the South Sacramento area, just east of the Pocket area.

Responding officers quickly discovered that the female victim had been assaulted inside of an adult group home where she resides. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was struck with a blunt object, causing her fatal injuries. At this time detectives believe that the suspect is known to the victim and her death does not appear to be stemming from a random attack.

Sacramento Police homicide detectives and crimes scene Investigators were called to the scene to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Update 4/24: Matthew Drake, 28, was arrested in the killing of the woman. He was known to be an acquaintance of the victim and was said to be visiting her at the location. He was picked up yesterday while riding his bike on Winnett Way, about 2 1/2 miles from the scene of the murder.
