Officers with the Turlock Police Department have arrested 52 year-old Dan Rigney after an attempted homicide.
Officers were dispatched to Donnely Park located at 600 Pedras Road at 4:45 p.m. to reports of an assault. Officers arrived at the scene to find citizens who had intervened during the attack restraining Rigney on the ground. Witnesses told officers that Rigney had used a knife to cut the victim’s throat as he threatened to kill her.
The victim, Rigney’s ex-girlfriend, had agreed to meet with Rigney at the park to exchange some property, since the two had recently broken up. The exchange became heated, which resulted in Rigney attacking her. The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening wounds and is now in stable condition.
Rigney was arrested and charged with attempted homicide, criminal threats and domestic battery.
