REDLANDS – Two robbery suspects arrested after Monday morning’s high speed chase could be connected to other armed robberies throughout the Inland area.

Eugene Davis Washington, 44, of Palmdale, and Tumoi Chenette King, 26, of Mohave, were both arrested after police chased the two from Riverside to Redlands.

Police reported that Washington, armed with a handgun, confronted employees at a Kohl’s Department store at the Tyler Street Mall in Riverside just after 6 a.m. Washington forced workers into an office and demanded cash, then left the store, King driving a white Dodge Avenger.
Tailing them along Interstate 215, police finally caught up with them at Interstate 10 and continued the chase to Redlands, exiting at California St. Police stopped the car on Barton Rd., west of Alabama St. Washington fled with a duffle bag that was later found to have cash, along with a loaded handgun, said police. He surrendered after a short foot pursuit. He was booked in Riverside jail on seven felony counts, including armed robbery, kidnap for robbery and a parole violation.
King, who had remained inside the Avenger, was also arrested on felony counts of robbery and kidnap for robbery, along with misdemeanor evading. Washington was denied bail, but King’s bail was set at $1 million. Police statements included suspicion that “these suspects are believed to have been involved in numerous similar armed robberies and attempted robberies throughout Riverside and San Bernardino counties over the past several months.”
Additional charges could be brought against them as the investigation continues. Reports stated there were no injuries during the robbery or the chase.
