Santa Maria Man Arrested for Rape

SANTA MARIA – A 46-year-old man is in police custody on allegations of sexually assaulting a woman late last month while she was intoxicated.

Jesus Fernando Lopez Uribe

Jesus Fernando Lopez Uribe, of Santa Maria, was arrested without incident during a routine traffic stop near Donovan and College Thursday afternoon on suspicion of raping the unidentified victim sometime on Saturday, June 29, police said.

The 23-year-old female, whose identity isn’t being released by police, was an acquaintance of Uribe’s. She also resides in Santa Maria and was reportedly intoxicated at the time the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted her. Uribe was booked at Santa Barbara County Jail on rape charges following his arrest, police said.

In a separate case that presents a similar story, another woman was sexually assaulted while intoxicated over two months ago.  However, in that case, police dropped the investigation after the woman said that she would not press charges.
