Redding Woman attempts Kidnapping Infant

REDDING – On Saturday night, a Redding woman attempted to kidnap a 6-month-old infant from his home until a neighbor intervened and was able to take away the child.  At approximately 8:17 p.m., Kimberly Kay Brooks, 43,  strolled into the residence of 5812 Cedars Rd., Space 31 unwelcome.  She went into a bedroom, picked up the baby and left the home.  A neighbor stopped Brooks according officer Chris Smyrnos, “The baby was returned safely to his mother.”

The child’s father decided to trail Brooks.  Officers discovered her on Westside Rd., just north of Westwood Ave.  Brooks was booked into Shasta County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping and residential Burglary.  The previous month, she had been arrested for asking a man for money and when he said he had no cash, she reportedly punched him in the face at a Lake Blvd. convenience store.
